8th April 2010.
Only 6 weeks to go before entries close for the 2010 Kenda rally and we already have over 250 riders paid up and ready to ride. We will shut off entries at 500 riders, so if you’re thinking of entering, get onto it soon, before entries are full.
Some of our entrants have asked what’s expected of them as far as scrutineering of bikes is concerned. This year bike scrutineering will be done in two stages;
First up will be a noise test. If your bike looks as if it has a noisy muffler, you will be asked to start the bike and our noise tester will operate the decibel meter to ensure that the bike comes in under the EPA rule. If you have a stock muffler or an approved aftermarket pipe there won’t be a problem, but loud MX type pipes will not pass this stage.
Then you come to the scrutineering tent where essentially our scrutineers are looking for a bike that has a headlight and taillight affixed to the bike, a registration plate and label and the bike must be in a decent condition as far as brakes, spokes, wheel bearings, etc are concerned. At this stage we will take your licence and affix a sticker and number to your bikes headlight shroud. This number enables us to keep track of you through the day and at the end of the day we return your licence to you, once you have finished both loops.
As far as preparing your bike for the event, it will be a matter of making sure your chain & sprockets are in good condition, fresh brake pads for the big downhills, a spare tube in case of punctures and the most important of all-GOOD TYRES. There is no better feeling at the start of an event, knowing that you have a fresh set of Kenda knobs at the right pressure. You just can’t beat new tyres- especially if it’s wet!
Don’t forget to have enough fuel for two 80k loops. You can refuel in between each circuit.
We will be conducting “early bird” scrutineering on Saturday afternoon from 4pm to 6pm and on Sunday morning from 7.30 am to 9am.
Another thing we have been asked about heaps is the biggest team award. Basically you can organise a bunch of your riding mates into a team in writing. You can add riders to your team in writing before the entry cut-off date of 14th May. The winners will be calculated by the number of your team finishing the event and the $500.00 cash prize will be presented to you along with the trophy at the prize giving ceremony at the end of the day.
Past winners include Team Eat my dirt, the Dirty dozen and AMTRA.
That $500.00 can buy your team a lot of beer and Pizza……
